TECNO gets ready to launch next SPARK smartphone

It is almost a year since the first TECNO Spark series was released in Nigeria and from leaked images and rumours all over the internet, it seems the launch of another Spark device is imminent.

If the above image is real, the next TECNO Spark is mesmerizingly beautiful. Yep, TECNO has totally made away with ugly looking smartphones, and we believe the next Spark smartphone won’t deviate from TECNO’s new design language.

Next TECNO SPARK will flaunt a Mix Flash 2.0 (Front Dual Flash + Mix Filling Light + Rear Three-ring Flash)

Ok, this one is worth the wait, I mean, mix camera flash is expected-this may not be something so new but- the three-ring-flash at the back will be the coolest feature of the upcoming device.

Spark lovers can expect to see a new smartphone from TECNO with highly optimized cameras for selfies and group pictures but I guess we should wait and see as only time will tell.

From the numerous leaks all over the internet, it is certain TECNO will be releasing its latest SPARK in the month of June and the device is looking right for a market increasingly demanding for camera centric devices.

Now back to the 1-million-dollar question, how much will the Next TECNO Spark go for?

Half of a Nigerian boxer's face blown off by bullet in recent assassination attempt in U.K

A Nigerian boxer's face was blown off after he was blasted with a shotgun just yards from his mum's front door in London.

Oluwafemi Omosuyi, 22, had recently come back from training in Dublin and was hanging out with friends at about 8pm on Saturday when he was gunned down as he sat in a car outside Oliver Goldsmith Primary in Peckham, south London.

Horrific footage shared online shows Femi lying with blood pouring from his face.

Femi was airlifted to the hospital following the shooting suspected to be gang related. He had emergency surgery and is now in a stable condition, his mum Stella Aladetam, 53, said. A friend was also injured in the attack.

Friends said Femi was stabbed last year, allegedly by the same gang who gunned him down.

Elementary school with a race track on it's roof in china

As a display for how roof levels can offer added functionality in the built environment, architecture has designed the tiantai primary school based on the form of a 200-meter running track.

The strategy responds to issues of land scarcity prevalent in this old-city zone in china, and similarly exist in many urban areas worldwide.

The scheme allows for the sport and playground space necessary in contemporary educational institutions, while keeping the massing’s site coverage relatively low (41%) for reduced density and usable outdoor space on the ground plane.

Tragic:Hawaii volcanic eruption destroys 5 homes as toxic gas and molten lava threatens residents

At least five homes have been destroyed after the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii's Big Island erupted, spewing molten rocks and high levels of sulfur dioxide into neighborhoods.

The eruption drove hundreds of people from their homes Thursday. It was followed by a magnitude 6.9-magnitude quake Friday -- the most powerful on the island since 1975, the US Geological Survey said.

At least eight volcanic vents have opened in Leilani Estates, according to the USGS.

All residents of Leilani Estates, a community of about 1,700 people near the Big Island's eastern edge, and nearby Lanipuna Gardens have been ordered to evacuate.

"The area continues to be unstable with volcanic venting and related hazards of earthquake and poisonous gases ongoing," the Hawaii Civil Defense Agency said Saturday night.

New photos released by the USGS showed a wall of molten lava from the seventh fissure in Leilani Estates and a new crack in one of the subdivision's roads.

'We're not done yet'
Hawaii County Civil Defense administrator Talmadge Magno told CNN affiliate KHON that the vents had quietened Saturday, "but we're pretty certain that we're not done yet."

"Vents continue to open up, so we lost a few more structures," he said. "I'm pretty happy that we did evacuated the whole neighborhood and unfortunately some people are still in there and we need to get them out. The gases are still high."

Magno said authorities are working on a plan that would allow residents temporarily back in to retrieve additional belongings if conditions allowed.

The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park said on Twitter Saturday that "if volcanic and seismic activity remain at current levels," some areas of the park could reopen Sunday afternoon.

'Just basically heartbreak'
Timothy Trun was among a dozen who evacuated from his farm Thursday as he and others were about to sit down to a goodbye dinner for a friend.

"It's been a real shocker," he told CNN on Saturday. "We're about to enjoy eating dinner, and the cops show up and tell us you have to go, and everything changes in an instant. You have five minutes to pack your bags with what you think you're going to need and you're off."

Neil Valentine and his family also left their home Thursday night in Leilani Estates. He later saw a video on social media showing lava splashing and bubbling a few feet from his home, he told CNN affiliate KITV.

"Just basically heartbreak," he said of the scene. "My wife and I have been married going on 26 years. It was pretty much our dream home that we've been looking for all this time. Just knowing that we're not going to have a house, my wife is still in tears."

Harry Kim, mayor of Hawaii County, said the government will support residents who want to go back to their homes to pick up some belongings.

Cracks in Kilauea volcano's rift zone -- an area of fissures miles away from the summit -- erupted Thursday and early Friday, spurting lava near the island's eastern edge.

Sulfur gas levels in some areas are too high, which can be life-threatening, according to the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

Volcanic eruptions can release the gaseous compound, and Hawaiian fire department personnel have detected high levels of it in the evacuation area, the civil defense agency said.

Breathing large amounts of sulfur dioxide can result in burning of the nose and throat, and breathing difficulties. Senior citizens, the young and people with respiratory issues are especially vulnerable to the gas, the state's Emergency Management Agency said.

Magno said the gases had affected first responders:

"The officers and firefighters that were out there on the first night, the gasses were really high," he told the affiliate. "Usually it's not long lasting. You can recover from it, but they went home with headaches and so forth, but that's part of the exposure."

My customers trust me- A barber in Holland who uses fire to cut clients hair

Kadir Demirel, who runs Kapsalon Istanbul, in Holland, has ditched the scissors and instead sprays flammable liquid on his clients’ hair before setting it alight.

The 39-year-old businessman said: ‘I learnt this technique during my barber training in Turkey.

‘Traditionally it was used as a way of burning away lice when there was no cure and it was also used to style and smooth hair as there were no hair dryers at the time.

‘I use it to tame frizzy hair and burn away dead ends. Healthy hair isn’t damaged by this technique.

‘It can also be used to remove static hair after a cut but I wouldn’t recommend anyone trying it without proper training.

‘My customers aren’t scared because they trust me and it’s not painful. I have one customer who is just seven years old and another who is eight.

‘I enjoy my work because it’s so different. I also like to teach other barbers how to use this technique.’

Bodies of 3 family members who traveled in SUV found in California river

The bodies of two members of a California family of four who went missing earlier this month were found inside a vehicle encased in sediment in the Eel River, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said. The remains of a third family member also have been recovered.

Two adults and two children of the Thottapilly family, from Santa Clarita, disappeared in early April while driving in a Honda Pilot through the Redwood Coast Highway on vacation, officials said. Their disappearance coincided with reports that a vehicle had sunk into the Eel River in Northern California.
On Sunday, searchers discovered a vehicle in the river about a half-mile downstream of the reported crash site, near Leggett, the sheriff's office said. A tow truck then removed the vehicle, which was encased in a large amount of sediment.
Sandeep Thottapilly, 41, and Saachi Thottapilly, 9, were found dead inside the vehicle. Separately, an adult female body recovered on Friday from another area of the river was identified as Soumya Thottapilly, 38.
Siddhant Thottapilly, 12, remains missing.
Autopsies on the bodies are expected to be performed this week, authorities said. The family had been driving along US Highway 101 from Portland, Oregon, to their home in Santa Clarita, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The site of the crash is about 30 miles north of where another family's SUV plunged off of a cliff and crashed on the rocky Pacific Ocean shore. In that case, Jennifer and Sarah Hart and three of their six children were found dead at the scene and three other children remain missing. A body was found in the ocean at the scene, but it has not been identified.

My cocks protect me against evil

Skhumbuzo Zwane says he wouldn’t sell his favourite roosters for anything.
SKHUMBUZO Zwane is proud of his two cocks.

The 40-year-old man from Sun City in Ermelo, Mpumalanga said the birds protect him from thugs and against evil.

“They also guard my other chickens. They are brave,” said the man who owns more than 30 chickens.

“I usually release them to move around freely and they often go to my neighbours’ yards.”

He said the cocks are clever and teach other chickens not to ruin his neighbours’ gardens.

“It’s interesting to see how protective they are.”

He told Daily Sun he owns two other roosters.

“But they are not so brave and big as these two.”

He has built a chicken run in his yard.

Skhumbuzo said he doesn’t breed chickens to slaughter and cook.

“I breed chickens to make money.

“I have many customers in the kasi, especially sangomas.

“They often buy chickens to heal their patients.

“Most people buy chickens because the meat tastes better than the frozen one sold at supermarkets,” he told the People’s Paper.

But he said he wouldn’t sell his favourites.

“I love these cocks because they protect me all the time.

“They are my security guards and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

“People in the kasi know that I’m safe when these birds are around.”

Black panther knocks off titanic and holds new record

Black Panther has knocked Titanic off its perch in the US (Picture: Rex Features)
Black Panther is a whole new kind of beast.

Well we all knew that from the first moment the movie started, but it’s officially turned into a box office predator that Marvel and Disney could never have predicted.

After storming into cinemas across the US and Europe in February the film has repeatedly smashed through expectations and records.

So far it’s earned earned over $1 billion (£916 million) in takings worldwide and became the biggest movie to open in February ever, amongst other things, but now it’s starting to really make waves – see what we did there? – at the top as it has officially surpassed Titanic’s US record.

That’s right, Ryan Coogler’s blockbuster has gone and trumped James Cameron’s period piece to settle in as the third-highest grossing movie of all-time in the United States.

Its domestic total right now sits at around $661 million, £469.2 million (Picture: Marvel/Disney/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)
The heartbreaking tale of Jack and Rose’s doomed romance finished it’s domestic run at $659.3 million (£468 million) while yesterday’s estimations from show that T’Challa and co. raked in an additional $2.3 million (£1.4 million), boosting its domestic total to right around $661 million (£469.2 million).

It means that Black Panther now looks as though it will finish its domestic run behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6 million or £664.86 million) and Avatar ($760.5 million or £539.8 million), which is no mean feat.

Just last week, the movie passed Jurassic World and Frozen stateside and globally, respectively.

Ryan has been keeping a close eye on his creation and previously took to Twitter via the Marvel Studios account to share his heartfelt thanks with fans all across the world.

He said: ‘I am struggling to find the words to express my gratitude at this moment, but I will try. Filmmaking is a team sport. And our team was made up amazing people from all over the world who believed in this story. Deep down we all hoped that people would come see a film about a fictional country on the continent of Africa, made up of a cast of African descent.

‘Never in a million years did we imagine that you all would come out this strong. It still humbles me to think that people care enough to spend their money and time watching our film — but to see people of all backgrounds wearing clothing that celebrates their heritage, taking pictures next to our posters with their friends and family, and sometimes dancing in the lobbies of theaters — often moved me and my wife to tears.

Dog sentenced to death for killing its owner and son in Germany

Animal experts have said "no matter how friendly one is with his pet, be cautious because one day, they can lose it". A Staffordshire Terrier mixed-breed dog has been to death after autopsy results on Friday confirmed it mauled its owners to death in the German city of Hanover.

The incident, which shocked Germany and prompted a debate about the rules of dog ownership, saw a 52-year-old woman and her 27-year-old son die as the result of the attack in their apartment.

Fire rescue workers captured the dog when they broke into the flat after being alerted by the woman’s daughter late Tuesday. The daughter contacted authorities after she couldn’t reach either family member and spotted the lifeless body of her brother through the window of the flat.

Neighbours said that the man was seriously ill and had been so since childhood. His mother was apparently a wheelchair user. The dog, named Chico, is in an animal shelter in the nearby town of Langenhagen and will be euthanised (killed).

Pope:There is no Hell

“There is no hell where the souls of sinners suffer in eternity”, Pope Francis was quoted as saying in a Thursday interview with Italian daily La Repubblica.
Francis said: “after death, the souls of people who repent are pardoned by God and join in his contemplation,“but those who do not repent, and therefore cannot be pardoned, disappear.”

“Hell does not exist – what exists is the disappearance of sinful souls,” he added.
The pope was interviewed by Eugenio Scalfari, a veteran Italian journalist and atheist who regularly muses about faith and religion, and enjoys access to the leader of the Catholic Church.
In the past, the veracity of quotes he attributed to the pope has been called into question, especially after the 93-year-old Scalfari admitted to never using a tape recorder during interviews.
However, the Vatican has never complained about Scalfari’s work, and Francis has continued giving interviews to him. (dpa/NAN)

TOO MUCH MONEY:MAN PROPOSES TO GIRLFRIEND WITH 25 BRAND NEW IPHONE X

The man staged a grand proposal

Chen Ming, a young video-game designer from Shenzen, China, recently sparked the envy of iPhone fans all around the world, after buying 25 brand new iPhone X smartphones and arranging them in a heart shape to propose to his girlfriend.

To pull of the over-the-top marriage proposal, Chen Ming pre-ordered 25 iPhone Xs, and, on November 3, when the newest Apple handheld officially launched in China, he arranged them all in the shape of a heart on a bed of red rose metals, with an engagement ring in the middle.

To make sure that his girlfriend didn’t suspect a thing, Chen enlisted the help of her friends, asking them to bring her to the specified location of the surprise.

When the unsuspecting girlfriend – named only as Lee – arrived and saw the lavish display of luxury phones and Chen down on his knee holding the engagement ring, she couldn’t help but be touched by his romantic gesture and accepted his marriage proposal.

In case you’re wondering why Chen Ming opted for iPhone Xs, of all things, he and his girlfriend are apparently big fans of mobile video games. The two met two years ago through a game that Chen had developed and gaming has reportedly been a big part of their relationship ever since. But why 25 of them, though? The number was reportedly meant to symbolize Lee’s age.

So what is the lucky bride-to-be supposed to do with 25 new iPhone X smartphones? Well she and Chen decided that 25 is a bit too much for one person, so they gifted them to the friends that helped pull off the unique proposal.

Photos of the romantic iPhone X display recently went viral on Chinese social media, leaving people wondering why anyone would spend so much money on a bunch of phones when they could have bought a new car or put a down payment on a house for the same amount.

Prices for the iPhone X start at 8,388 yuan in mainland China, which means Chen must have spent at least 210,000 yuan ($31,500) on them.

Chen Ming should consider himself lucky that his girlfriend accepted to be his wife. Three years ago, another Chinese man got turned down after spending nearly $100,000 on a stack of iPhone 6 phones, because his girlfriend wanted diamonds instead.

Sad story; Mother shoots her two little daughters dead while they were sleeping

KayLee, seven, and five-year-old Kenlie were shot as they slept at home in Texas

Sarah Nicole Henderson, a 29-year-old mother has been charged with the murder of her two "angel" daughters who were shot dead as they slept in the family home in Texas.

According to a report by The Sun UK, the young woman was arrested in the early hours of Thursday after cops found the bodies of KayLee, seven, and five-year-old Kenlie.

Officers had been to the house just hours before the shooting after Sarah's husband, the girls' stepdad, called to say she was suicidal.

She had also reportedly said people were "after her".

But the couple told officers everything was fine and they left at 11.30pm on Wednesday.

Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said: “No one was in any danger. No one was suicidal, no signs of violence, no signs of anything.”

Three hours later the husband called 911 to say Sarah had walked into the living room where her daughters were sleeping and shot them.

Deputies returned to the scene and found the two girls dead in Payne Springs, 60 miles south-east of Dallas.

Sarah was arrested and charged with capital murder.

The sheriff said: "The only thing she told us was that she had smoked some marijuana early in the evening.
"She was very blunt. We just don’t have any answers as to why.”

The double murder shocked neighbours, who laid stuffed toys and said prayers outside the house.

Jackie Nelms said: “I just asked God to cuddle them and love them, and put his hands around them up there,”

Jaylyne Palmer said: “Those little girls were so adorable. They would draw pictures for us and put them in the mailbox for us.
“We had chills all over when we heard about it.”

A Gofundme page has been set up by one of Sarah's friends to pay for the funeral.

Jacklyn Caidenhead, who said she grew up with the mother and was close to both children, said: "Heaven gained two beautiful babies today."
"These little girls always put light in my life, always happy, smiles from ear to ear, and big warm hugs that lasted a minute long."

Rob Schilling said: "I will pray for these angels. I cannot believe such evil would befall them from the woman they trusted the most.
"What kind of mother does this. RIP the Good Lord has you now."

40 Indian doctors separate twins joined in the skull

Doctors in India have successfully separated conjoined twin boys who were attached at the skull in a marathon surgical procedure that lasted more than 36 hours and involved 40 doctors.

The two-year-old twins, who suffered a rare condition occurring once in about 2.5 million births, underwent the operation at a government-run hospital in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The conjoined twins before the marathon separation surgery by Indian doctors
“It was a team work of 40 doctors, 20 nurses and many other paramedical staff. Without their help this would not have been possible,” the All India Institute of Medical Science hospital said in a statement.

One of the twins after the separation
One of the surgeons involved said the most challenging aspect was repairing the holes left in the young boys’ heads after they were separated.

The twins were born in a village in the eastern state of Orissa with shared blood vessels and some shared brain tissue.
The twins were born in a village in the eastern state of Odisha with shared blood vessels and some shared brain tissue. They had undergone the first phase of the separation surgery in August.

“The most challenging job after the separation was to provide a skin cover on both sides of the brain for the children as the surgery had left large holes on their heads,” said Maneesh Singhal, a plastic surgeon who was a part of the operating team.

“The skin was generated from the expansion of two balloons which were placed inside their heads during the first surgery in August,” Singhal told AFP on Friday.

“The next step will be reconstruction of their skulls,” he added.

Conjoined siblings are identical twins who are born with their skin and internal organs fused together, according to the University of Maryland Medical Centre website.

About half are stillborn, and the survival rate is between five and 25 percent.

They develop from a single egg, which splits in the case of healthy twins, but not fully in the case of conjoined siblings.

Catalonia Declares independence from Spain

Supporters of independence gathered outside the Catalan parliament as the vote was taking place

The Catalan regional parliament has voted to declare independence from Spain, just as the Spanish government appears set to impose direct rule. The move was backed 70-10 in a ballot boycotted by opposition MPs.

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy earlier told senators direct rule was needed to return "law, democracy and stability" to Catalonia. The crisis began when Catalans backed independence in a disputed vote earlier this month.

The Catalan government said that of the 43% of potential voters who took part in the referendum, 90% were in favour of independence. But Spain's Constitutional Court had ruled the vote illegal.

In all, the motion declaring independence was approved with 70 in favour, 10 against and two abstentions in the 135-seat chamber. Immediately afterwards, Mr Rajoy called for all Spaniards to remain calm, promising to "restore legality" to Catalonia.

Spain's Senate is still to vote on whether for the first time to enact Article 155 of the Spanish constitution, which empowers the government to take "all measures necessary to compel" a region in case of a crisis.

It would enable Madrid to fire Catalan leaders, and take control of the region's finances, police and public media.

Sri Lanka launches first banking robot

One of Sri Lanka’s leading commercial banks, Sampath Bank, on Thursday said it had launched the country’s first banking robot that works in the form of a humanoid teller.

In a statement, Sampath Bank has said the robot uses artificial intelligence to understand customers’ requests and performs transactions.

“It detects the presence of a customer and automatically initiates a conversation.

“The robot has been installed in the bank’s head office in Colombo and can speak and understand English.

“It can perform such functions as cash withdrawals, account balances, exchange rates, interest rates, details of loans and credit cards and information on how to open an account.

“The humanoid teller will be programmed to perform more functions upon studying the customer requirements further.

“The bank is also planning to include Sinhala and Tamil language capabilities in the coming months,’’ the statement said.

Nanda Fernando, managing director of Sampath Bank PLC, said that technological innovations would be at the heart of the banking industry for years to come.

“Living up to our pioneering spirit we are proud to introduce Robot Banking services that will no doubt add more convenience while taking the country’s banking and finance industry forward,’’ Fernando said.

Microsoft releases new Skype voice, video technology

Microsoft this week announced new Skype voice and video technology that adds advanced calling capabilities to Teams, the instant messaging tool for professionals that is bundled in Microsoft Office 365.

“Microsoft Teams will evolve as the core communications client,” Ron Markezich, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of Office 365 said. “We will make Microsoft Teams the hero and primary experience for all voice, video, and meetings.”

With Skype for Business and Yammer, Microsoft has made it possible for years for professionals to work together online, but since the arrival of Slack in 2014 the workplace collaboration market has become more competitive.

From 2015 to 2016, the market grew by 13.6 percent, and it is expected to be worth more than $22 billion by 2021, according to IDC, the market research firm. Microsoft remains the leader with 36.8 percent market share, but since 2014, Slack has shown fast growth and claims 5.3 percent of the market, according to IDC.

Microsoft plans to continue supporting Skype for Business, especially for companies that run the software on their own data centers, but Microsoft expects its subscription-based Office 365 users to migrate to Teams over time as more communication features are added.

Death toll from Kenya poll violence rises to three

An opposition supporter reacts under the heavy rain in front of a burning barricade in Mathare district, in Nairobi on October 26, 2017, as a group of demonstrators blocked the road and tried to prevent voters from accessing a polling station during presidential elections.

At least three people were shot dead Thursday as opposition protests sparked violence during Kenya’s presidential re-run, according to police and hospital sources.

One man was killed in Nairobi’s Mathare slum, one of the hotspots where protesters tried to block the vote which has been boycotted by opposition leader Raila Odinga, prompting clashes with police.

“I have just confirmed he was shot in the forehead,” said Drugnet hospital director Dickens Osimba. An AFP photographer also saw the body.

A police statement from assistant inspector general George Kinoti said another person had been shot dead in western Homa Bay “where a large mob attacked a small police facility… and the few police officers were constrained to use live fire to protect themselves and the armoury”.

Earlier police and hospital sources confirmed a 19-year-old was killed in Kisumu, whose body was also seen by AFP.

The latest casualties take the death toll since a disputed August 8 election to at least 43. Rights groups say most people were killed at the hands of police.

“With tensions running high there is a very real threat of further bloodshed as the election re-run takes place,” said Justus Nyangaya, director at Amnesty International Kenya.

“We are calling on the police to only use force as a last resort — unlawful police killings and other human rights violations must not be allowed to recur.”

The election is being held after Kenya’s Supreme Court overturned the August vote citing “irregularities” and mismanagement.
