Police engages a 30 man robbery gang in a gun battle in Abuja

- Members of a robbery gang terrorising a residential area in Abuja were paraded by the police

- According to the police, two of the robbers were killed, three escaped while three were arrested

- The robbery gang is believed to have about 30 members

The Nigeria Police Force at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said it has smashed a 30-man armed robbery gang terrorising Sauka Federal Housing Area.

The police faced the robbers on Friday, March 16, after the gang attacked the area and a concerned resident called to inform the police. A gun battle ensued between the robbers and the police when the police arrived the scene.

The Punch reports that two of the robbers were shot dead while three escaped with gunshot injuries. Three others were, however, arrested.

Items such as a locally-made pistol, nine Plasma Television sets, shoes, and a knife were recovered from them, according to the police reports.

The spokesmen for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Manzah Anjugri, who confirmed the arrest said: “In
another operation, we arrested six persons in the Banex area during a stop-and-search operation and we recovered firearms and Indian hemp from them. The suspects will be transferred to the investigation department for further investigation."

It was gathered earlier that a suspected cult member and pipeline vandal, Temona Alison, who is said to be on the wanted list of the police in Bayelsa state, has been arrested.

Alison, who is in his 20s, was apprehended by the Bayelsa state police command strike force on Sunday, March 4, in his house on Tombia-Ammassoma Road by Boxi water.
