Former vice president of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar hails withdrawal of quit notice issued on Igbos

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the recent decision of the Arewa youths to rescind the quit notice they issued to Igbo people living in the north

- Atiku commended the group, and also called on other agitating ethnic groups who had issued quit notices to others, to withdraw their various notices

- The former VP applauded Buhari for condemning the sectarian divisions in his live broadcast, while also appealing to other Nigerian statesmen to add their voices in condemning hate speech

For rescinding their October 1 quit notice to Igbos, the Coalition of Northern Youths group has been applauded by former Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar, New Telegraph reports.

The former Vice President made his comments in a statement released by his media office in Abuja on Friday August 25.

However, the former VP appealed to the Arewa youths to go the whole 9-yards and withdraw any other condition(s) given to Ndigbo residing in northern Nigeria or anywhere else in the nation.

He stated that “Reconciliation must be total or else it is Pyrrhic”.


Taking it one step further, the Waziri Adamawa further appealed to other agitating ethnic groups who had issued quit notices to others, to withdraw their various notices and accept the extended olive branch.

Atiku called on other Nigerian statesman to condemn hate speeches and refrain from making statements that would heat up the polity, as he also praised President Muhammadu Buhari for condemning the sectarian divisions in his national broadcast.

According to Atiku, quoting the words of a great patriot, the task of keeping Nigeria united is one that must be done.
