A 23-year-old mother identified as Esther Ita Udoakang has been arrested in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, for selling h
er day-old baby. The young lady has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Federal High Court.The public relations officer of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Nneka Aniagoh, disclosed that Udoakang was imprisoned for taking part in child trafficking.She said: “The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has secured another conviction as 23-year-old Esther Ita Udoakang gets sentenced to two years imprisonment for child trafficking.
It was further reported that the young lady pleaded guilty for selling her baby to one Princess Tonymass. She was later sentenced to two years in prison or pay a fine of N400,000.However, the director general of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah-Donli commended those whotook time to investigate this case. Okah-Donli reportedly lauded the judiciary for prompt judgment delivery and reiterated her resolve tofight child trafficking to the letter.It was earlier reported that 22-year-old BlessingEmmanuel put to bed and delivered a baby boy but was immediately rendered childless when her mum, Patience, stripped her baby off her and allegedly sold the day-old child to one Ijeoma Okechukwu.
